Radiation from iPhone is not a health hazard to take lightly. Manufacturers and agencies may well defend mobile technology, but we all know better than that: radiation absorbed by the body has a cumulative effect, so it is paramount that we make everything possible under the sun to lower the amount received by an iphone’s daily use.
IPhones are the smart answer to today’s increased needs of communication and navigation through the internet. Contesting the numerous ways they facilitate our lives would be self-delusion: their use is a given – a wise and less hazardous to our health use is a must. Wired hands-free and wireless Bluetooth headsets have been proposed as safer alternatives and the mobile industry keeps coming up with newer and safer solutions to minimize radiation from iPhone and subsequent public concern. While most official studies support that developing cancer from cell phones use is most unlikely to occur, evidence is not yet conclusive and research is ongoing.
While initially wired hands-free headsets were promoted as a safe alternative to talking to a cell phone directly next to the ear, thus minimizing the health hazards of radiation from iPhone, newer studies claim that the wired piece in fact works as an antenna, amplifying the signal received by the mobile phone. Wireless Bluetooth headsets, operating at a lower range of radio frequencies than a normal cell phone or iPhone (typically 0.24-0.25 GHz for a Bluetooth headset, as compared to the 0.9-1.8 GHz of an iPhone), offer a much safer solution.
Still, people keep worrying about cancer from cell phones, especially given the fact that the cell phone industry and public health agencies, while officially denying that the devices may pose risks to health, keep issuing guidelines to warn public against potential health hazards. The fact remains that radiation absorbed by the body has long-term cumulative effects. Studies are not conclusive yet and research is ongoing.
An answer to above concerns seems to be the latest technology which claims to reduce radiation from iPhone by 60% in terms of SAR rates and is approved by the FCC. Pong Technology, as the technology used in the invention is called, shifts the RF energy of the iPhone away from the user’s head and comes in the form of a silicone protective case with a built-in antenna structure. The iPhone 4 Bounce Case was invented by Dr Alfred Wong, a physicist at the UCLA, and works by redirecting the signals emitted by the iPhone. One way to describe the way it operates, would be to visualize the energy emitted as a “bubble” of radio waves coming from the iPhone: the Bounce Case shifts the center of this “bubble,” sending radiation away from the ear and head and to the opposite direction.
Mobile research keeps looking for ways to reduce radiation from iPhone and minimize the health risks associated with its use. It is only natural that newer and more effective alternatives emerge with time in order to better safeguard our health. And while science carelessly manipulated can have detrimental effects, science wisely applied can free us from many risks and worries.
Risks associated with the use of mobile devices can now be reduced drastically. Inform yourself on how to reduce radiation from iPhone and communicate free of worries for possible health issues.
